As we prepare to enjoy a Summer Olympics filled with the best in Black Girl Magic, let’s think about what it took for those outstanding young women to reach that level of success. Hours upon hours of training, unwavering commitment to their sports, and the courage to take a chance. After all, that’s what winners do – they take chances. In fact, they often take the chances that others aren’t willing to take.
The dictionary defines chance as the possibility of something happening. A lot of people dwell on that word “possibility”, but for two different reasons. For some, possibility represents all of the negative things that could result from their taking a chance. They let those negative thoughts consume them to the point where they become paralyzed by fear.
For others, possibility represents all of the incredibly amazing blessings that could flow into their lives if they just step out on faith and take a chance. That’s not to say that they don’t think about the risks, or even fear failing. They do, but they know that the only way to guarantee failure is not trying at all. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we live by faith, not by sight.” When you rely on your faith, you know that God is in control no matter what. So, why wouldn’t you give dating a try, or start that business you’ve always dreamed of, or get serious about your wellness by joining that fitness group?
Winners don’t sit idly by waiting for that big opportunity to knock at the door. They go out and take the chances necessary to create the opportunities they desire. So, stop with the waiting. Take some chances and be the winner you were meant to be!
